My kids had a middle school field day at the end of the year. It was the year we lived a block from the school AND the year our daughter got her first phone. I worked from home, and she kept calling and texting me with stuff like:

“Can you bring my sweatshirt? I’m cold.”

“I’m hungry. Will you bring me a sandwich?”

“I really want a Coke right now. Can you get me a Coke?” (We never have soda. I think she expected me to run to the store for her. 😂)

And when I didn’t respond, she texted:

MOM

MOM

MOM

MOM

MOM

MOM

MOM

MOM

I immediately regretted getting her a phone.

Field day ribbons were a big deal in my day too but I’m just now realizing my kids’ field day does not do them. But also very happy to learn we have a first place winner of the hula hoop relay in our midst.
