Thank you, I feel this ❤️ I definitely feel the chaotic, loud, loneliness and to me it gets worse, when not much else than parenting exists. Oh the beauty and the terror of having children 🤪
Very relatable, Andrew. I'm feeling the parenting loneliness now with my one year old. But in a couple of months I'll have to go back to work full time and I'm dreading it.
I never thought I'd say this but I miss the trampoline years. (Not that we had one either...but metaphorically speaking...) We played Moss, too, but didn't have a name for it. I love the Pickleball comment!
I think we are kindred spirits. I *totally* relate to how you relate to other parents. I know most of them as "so-and-so's dad or mom," and some parents are even entered this way into my phone. Meaning, I text with them at least semi-regularly and don't actually know their names. There is also a crapload of noise in our house -- with an adolescent daughter, a lot of that is in the form of slammed doors and theatrical proclamations about the extent to which I suck -- but I often also feel lonely, especially with kids who are getting older. I used to complain about my son being clingy and now I feel like I have to beg him to hang out with me. Ah, the paradoxes of parenting!

Great read.
Thanks Patrick! Hope your transition goes as smoothly as possible.
Babel is amazing!
We own a trampoline, but my stomach becomes untethered from my body - it's not pretty - and I avoid it all costs.
My only child is at school; it's hard.
Probably a smart move regarding the trampoline. Thanks for reading!

Yes, that sounds about right! Paradox after paradox.
